In the train

  • Even during the rush hours, the fully packed trains are unfamiliarly quiet. People sleep, read, chat or play pointless games on their smartphones. Talking, eating or the sounds of a phone are not only unpleasant for the passengers but perceived as rude.

Exceptions are the trains on the way and away from Shibuya Station in the evening. Then the young and western people crowd the trains and challenge the unwritten rules of the strict Japanese society.
